It was wonderful to see some new faces this year along with several that have been there since the first year! Thank you to everyone for participating. All the artwork will be on display and for sale at The Artisans Village Art Gallery, so please stop in and see what these talented artists were able to create in only a few hours! All of the plein air painting took place within one mile the Gallery.

The Seventh Annual Eatonton One Day Paint Out was held on Saturday, April 29, 2023. The day consisted of two main events: Workshops and a Paint Out contest.

1. Workshops: From 9:00 am – 12:00 pm we were pleased to offer two Plein Air Workshops ($50) taught by award-winning Plein Air painters and instructors Keith Burgess (Keith Burgess Fine Art) and Marsha Hamby Savage (Marsha Savage Fine Art). 2. Paint Out: Artists must be 18 years of age or older. Registration for the Paint Out is $20. Please be sure to read the full rules and regulations. Artists must begin painting at or after 1:00 p.m. the day of the event and submit the painting to event organizers by 5:00 p.m. No work can be done after 5:00 p.m. Artists should paint outdoors within one mile of the registration location at The Artisans Village Art Gallery, 110 W. Marion St, Eatonton, GA. 31024. There are cash prizes (1st: $150; 2nd: $100; 3rd: $75.). Judging will be done by the workshop instructors. The event will be held rain or shine, so come prepared. We highly recommend you register in advance for the Paint Out so we can provide recommended locations to paint and suggestions for inclement weather locations as well. However, we do accept walk-ups on the day of the event.

For suggestions on where to paint for the Eatonton One Day Paint Out view our Interactive Google Map. Click on the purple markers for the exact address, short description, and photos of the location. We will continue to add more Historic Homes and Gardens as we get permission and details from the homeowners. We’ve added a few public spaces to this map as well, but there are many more beautiful public areas you are welcome to paint. If you’d like to suggest a spot or home for this list, or if you have any questions about the map, feel free to complete the form on our website. *We did get permission from the private homes on this list. Please be respectful and leave no trace anywhere you decide to paint.

WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORS:

KEITH BURGESS:Keith Burgess - Eatonton One Day Paint Out

Keith is primarily a landscape painter. He has received numerous one-man gallery shows, commissions, awards, and is also a teacher and show juror. His formal art education began at Valdosta State University and continued at Georgia Southwestern State University where he earned a B.A. Degree. After college, he began a long career as a graphic artist/illustrator for a major publishing corporation in Atlanta. Though he set aside painting during the early part of his corporate career, the urge to paint again lead him to pursue a fine art career on a serious level in the early 1990’s. He then began studying with nationally renowned artists from the Art Students League, NYC. In 2003 he left the corporate world to pursue his passion for painting full-time.

MARSHA HAMBY SAVAGE:Marsha Savage Eatonton One Day Paint Out

Marsha has 51 years of creating art with pastels, oils, acrylics, and gouache… and of course sketching with pencils and pens of all kinds. Her love of nature comes naturally because of the era in which she was raised. She is inspired by the landscape more than anything else and loves to paint plein air (on location) to see the real colors and atmosphere. Her work is a study which she says takes the pressure off. Don’t call it a painting until it becomes one. She does play and experiment by painting still life, the occasional figure or people, flowers, and some abstract work. She is always on a journey to learn more.
