Ann Dodys

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Stratford College (Danville, Va.) and a Masters of Art Education from Georgia State University (Atlanta, Ga.)I’ve taught art in public school for 30 years but I didn’t start seriously painting until 2013 when I discovered my love for pastels.

I was told to not try to please everyone with what I paint because you’ll end up pleasing no one, especially yourself. I try to stay true to what I’m inspired to paint always working to better my artwork. There’s always something new to learn.

My inspiration comes from my daily interaction with people and places. I look for composition when a particular image intrigues me and I try to catch a good photograph that I can work from in the studio at a later date. I’m interested in telling a story through my work.

I was born and raised in Atlanta. My husband, Dimitri, and I were looking for a small town to celebrate the next chapter in our lives together and we came across Madison. We’ve never once regretted our decision.

I was awarded Teacher of the Year in my last school. That was an honor that still means the world to me.

Vincent Van Gogh is one of my favorite painters so it would have to be him. He had so many obstacles in his short-lived life and still persevered with the art he was so passionate about creating.  I love the Musee d’Orsay in Paris. The building is spectacular and they have a whole floor of Impressionist art.
