Introducing Georgia Color: Plein Air Painting in Georgia’s Lake Country

2023 marks the fifth Georgia Color and we return where we began, Georgia’s Lake Country – Lake Oconee with activities in Madison, Greensboro and Eatonton, conveniently located between Atlanta, Athens, Macon/Milledgeville and Augusta.

Georgia Color Plein Air, presented by Olmsted Arts in partnership with The Artisans Village Guild, celebrates the tradition of painting outdoors and depicts the dramatic and distinct locales and landscapes. in Georgia. Propelled by the creative genius of Georgia’s most gifted plein air painters, Georgia Color is a sister event to the prestigious, Atlanta-based, Olmsted Plein Air Invitational.

This four-day experience will lift up the beauty, inspiration, and heritage of the of the country side in watercolors, pastels, oils and acrylics by Georgia Artists. Each Georgia Artist was juried and selected from a competitive pool to paint our splendid Georgia terrain and unique architecture in competition with one another. The result will render hundreds of paintings for sale and competition. Awards will be given.

Georgia Color is a juried event exclusively for Georgia artists. All paintings created throughout the event will be showcased and available for purchase at different events, at our gallery in Eatonton, and right off the easel. Fresh paintings will be added each day! Enjoy Artist Demonstrations, Talks and Gallery Walks as well!

All participating artists will hold and conceal two paintings created during Georgia Color to be placed in the competition. An Awards and Collectors Celebration will be held at Barrel 118 in Eatonton, Saturday evening October 21. VIP Entry 5:30 p.m. / All Ticket Holders enter 6:00 p.m.

General Information Overview

Georgia’s top recognized masters of plein air from Hiawassee to Savannah and in between, will converge on the local scenery of Georgia’s Lake Country – Madison, Greensboro, Eatonton – as they paint the local scenery during the 5th annual, Georgia Color Plein Air Competition. Georgia Color invites the public to join us for a special four-day event to see and experience the thrill of plein air painting by Georgia’s top outdoor painters.

This is a juried event. Artists are competing for a purse.

Learn from daily demonstrations by award-winning Georgia Artists and knowledgeable collectors.

Relax with great food and original works of art at our Welcome Reception and Awards Celebration.

Purchase original work for some of Georgia’s most esteemed contemporary Impressionist painters.

Complimentary events throughout the four days for art enthusiasts of all ages, including daily artist demonstrations, Welcome Reception, Community PaintQuick™ and the Awards Celebration.

Fresh paintings produced will be available for purchase at our exhibition gallery located at Barrel 118 from Thursday, October 19 – Sunday, October 22.

All competition paintings will be held back, revealed and available for sale for the first time at the Celebration of Art and Awards Presentation in Eatonton on October 21, 2023. Artists’ paintings will be judged by an esteemed panel of Judges as they vie for a purse and pursue winning Georgia Color.

Barrel 118 event venue is located in the heart of Eatonton’s downtown historic district in middle Georgia’s Lake Country region. We are conveniently located within 90 mins of Macon, Athens, Atlanta, and Augusta. Built in 1900, this 9,300 sq. ft. warehouse originally stored local farmers’ cotton awaiting transport via railroad. The building later became the H.B. Hearn warehouse, where farm supplies were stored and sold.

Historic restoration and major renovations completed in late 2019 now premier a strikingly gorgeous event venue with an industrial vibe. The unique architectural layout, distinctive design elements, and one-of-a-kind furnishings cater to a wide range of different private events.
