Beginning Jewelry Makingjewelry making class

Instructor: Becky Sherrell

Date: Saturday, March 28, from 10 am to 1 pm.

Location: The Artisans Village Art Gallery – 110 W. Marion Street in downtown Eatonton

Cost of Class + supplies: $62

The supply cost of $12
includes sterling silver jewelry findings for a pair of earrings and a necklace.

Detailed Description:

Learn how to design and create a pair of earrings and a necklace.  Tools will be provided. Students need to bring beads – either new beads, repurposed beads from old or
broken jewelry or a combination of the two.

Becky Sherrell has been making jewelry and glass beads since 2000 and never tires of the creative process. She’ll talk some about jewelry design and then get down to basics.

You’ll learn:

  • The difference between ear wires and head pins and gain confidence making a wrapped loop to make one pair of earrings.
  • Bead stringing for a necklace or bracelet and how to use crimp beads to attach a clasp.
  • How and when to use the basic jewelry making tools: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, flush cutter and crimping tool.

For Students after They Register:

  • Supply costs include sterling silver findings (ear wires, head pins, clasp and crimp beads)
plus bead wire for one pair of earrings and one necklace.
  • Additional supplies can be purchased during class to make an additional pair of earrings
    ($4.00) or necklace ($8.00).
  • You need to supply your own beads. You can purchase new beads or bring jewelry
pieces if you are reimagining them or even some combination of the two options. Hobby
Lobby is a good source for beads for beginning jewelry makers. Your bead costs will
depend on what you buy and/or bring with you.
  • Bead strands are normally 7” long, so if you want to create an 18 – 20 inch necklace and
pair of earrings, buy 4 bead strands. Or get creative and buy a few different bead
strands! If you want a longer necklace, more bead strands will be needed. My design
rule of thumb is the more beads the better!
  • If you wear reading glasses, please bring them with you. You will find them very useful in
    jewelry making!
