Past Class Examples:

We are going to paint the sweetest little still life this week. It’s a simple composition, but it packs a punch. We will have a still life setup in the art room, so please remember to bring a device that can capture some images.

I will be painting on an 8X10 canvas panel and using oils as my medium.
Your palette should include: Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue ( I will share if you don’t have), Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Cad Yellow Medium, White and Black. (Optional Lemon Yellow Hue)
For oils, you should have Gamsol in a sealed container.
Brushes, Paper towels, palette or palette paper, and a water container if using acrylics.

This is the painting I did today in preparation. I just knew I wanted a gold bamboo frame. I picked this one up at Hobby Lobby for $6.50. It’s an 8×10.

THURSDAY, MAY 23  |  Cost $50  |  11:30 – 2 pm

Our theme for this class will be “The Unapologetic Palette!” What better way to close out the session than with a pet portrait of our sweet animal buddies?

We will be working on a 12×12″ canvas in acrylics. Instead of a paint list, just bring your “fun” colors + Titanium White and Permanent Black. I am going to include the instructions for block poster printing at the end of the email. I will bring graphite paper for transferring. Your reference template will be appx 11×11″.

THURSDAY, APRIL 25  |  Cost $50  |  11:30 – 2 pm

“There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile;
He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.”
That sweet, little Mother Goose nursery rhyme is the inspiration for the next Painting Bee class with April Hendricks.  Van Gogh’s House at Auvers will be our inspiration piece for this class. Why this painting? Why this artist?
We will explore the power of the broken line and how to use it to show movement and create interest. In fact, Van Gogh used the technique to create the impression of color blending….without actually mixing it! Just look at the blues and greens on that roof! We will have a template to transfer the image.
